I Guess The Apostles Were Not 12 Angry Men...

Many people would do just about anything to get out of jury duty. But did you know that being a Christian might help! An American Trial Lawyers Association publication, "ATLA's Litigating Tort Cases"(an $800 manual advertised as "the inside track to establishing and maintaining a successful tort practice)," recommends quizzing jurors on their religious beliefs during the "voir dire" procedure meant to exclude biased jurors. The chapter classifies those with strong religious beliefs as "personal responsibility" jurors.  So what is a "personal responsibility juror"? They are described as thinking, "People should be self-reliant, responsible, and self-disciplined. When people act irresponsibly and are not self-disciplined, there are consequences. People must be accountable for their conduct". Because of these beliefs, they may not be sufficiently sympathetic to the plaintiffs.
Being a Christian would fit these values perfectly. The Bible teaches us “each one of us will give an account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:12),  and “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). The value that Bible teaches may not get us on a jury anytime soon but they will guide us to a heavenly home!
