Give Me The Bible Or I Will Kill You

Police in Fontana, California said passenger Michael Spearman caused his girlfriend to crash her SUV when he angrily grabbed the steering wheel and threatened to kill the woman. The reason for this incident, she would not turn around and go back home so he could retrieve his Bible. I'll be the first to tell you it is important to have your Bible, but this man might try reading it first.
His attitude is much like the Pharisees whom Jesus rebukes in John 5:37-40 when he says, “And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form. You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent. You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.” This verse can sound strange to our ears because Jesus seems to say the scriptures don’t give us eternal life. For a people that teach scripture as our only guide, does this statement contradict that idea?
The answer is found when we look at what he truly said. The scripture taught salvation would come thru Jesus but the Pharisee refused to heed it. Having the word does little if you don't listen to and obey the word. We may claim we care about and respect the word, but if we don’t listen and obey it, it is worthless.
