Ecclesiastes 12:10

   I am always amused by the oxymoronic phrase ‘known secret’. You will hear it about an actor’s bad behavior or a politician’s indiscrimination. It is as if the truth is out there but the collective all agrees to keep it under wraps. Maybe people are scared to tell or think it does no good, but it seems eventually the story breaks and the ‘known secret’ becomes truly known.   It is not just in the papers it happens, we do it in our lives as well. There are things we do but we just pretend we don’t. We figure it is just better to ignore than to deal. A problem buried is a problem solved.   However, the Bible tells us something different: “ For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil .” Ecclesiastes 12:14   " But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known . Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of Sherlock Holmes was a notorious practical joker.  He once sent out fake invitations to the mayor’s ball resulting in numerous unwanted guests.  Many suspect that he may have been responsible for Piltdown man, a hoax that claimed to be the so called “missing link” in evolution.  One of his most talked about pranks is when he once sent an anonymous telegram to twelve friends, all men of great prestige and importance, saying, “ All has been discovered, flee at once ”.  Within 48 hours, all of them had left town. It goes to show us that everyone, either great or small, has something they don’t people to find out. Dirt swept under the rug while we pretend everything is clean.
