Post Modern Note

In recent years, there has been a shift into a postmodern mindset that disallows any absolute truth.  Everything is relative and what is ‘right’ for one person may not be ‘right’ for others.  Feeling have as much substance as facts.   You may have also noticed how now it seems everything must be argued about. Any statement, any choice is subject to scrutiny to the nth degree. One would think that a more ‘flexible’ world that accepts all points of view equally would be much more tolerant.   However, real life doesn’t work that way.  Since no one can hold to facts, the currency of debate is about who cares the most. To be on top one must be fully committed to an insane emotional degree.  It might not make much sense what you believe but if you believe it enough, it is ‘right’.  So the worst thing you can do is to give over to the temptation to even listen to someone else's point of view.  Opposition is to be crushed, lest it li...

Reduction

I’ll admit I have a skill that may be more trouble than it is worth.  Since I have a pretty good ear for voices, I can often pick up certain speech patterns.  That pattern will be the basis of a way to mimic them.  So then I can do a decent impersonation of a lot of people.  However, it usually isn’t as fun for them as it is for everyone else.   I learned a long time ago that impersonations are not about duplication but reduction.  If you can reduce a person's speech to an easy to mimic phrase or peculiarity, you can pull off a passable impression even if you don’t sound all that much like the person.  Simplify a person to their most basic peculiarity and they are easy to mock.   You see this in our world today.  We like to reduce people down to their most basic trait.  He’s crazy.  She’s is dumb blonde.  They are just selfish kids.  He’s so ambitious.  She is just u...

What Hurts The Most

Martha Washington, the wife of President George Washington, often recalled the two saddest days of her life.  The first understandably was December 14, 1799, the day her husband died. The second was in January 1801. This was not because of a death but rather a visit from founding father Thomas Jefferson. As a close friend explained, " She assured a party of gentlemen, of which I was one. . .that next to the loss of her husband" Jefferson's visit was the "most painful occurrence of her life ."   But why of all things would that be such a terrible day?  You see, she had come to dislike Jefferson for his frequent attacks on President George Washington. Attacks that came from newspapers Thomas Jefferson ran solely to slander George Washington, which he funded with Federal money.  Money that he got from his position as Secretary of State, on George Washington's cabinet!  Martha Washington felt that any positive things that Jefferson said or did in ...

Who Are The Biggest Serial Killers?

Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz and Jeffrey Dahmer have more in common than just being serial killers. These three murderers are also connected by the fact that each of them tortured and/or killed animals during their childhoods. In fact a leading commonality in 99 percent of serial killers is cruelty to animals at an early age. In a study of male prison inmates who were deemed violent offenders, found that 56% admitted to having committed acts of violence against animals. Researchers as well as FBI and other law enforcement agencies nationwide have linked animal cruelty to domestic violence, child abuse, serial killings.   This research should not come as a shock to us. The Bible told us long ago in Proverbs 12:10: " A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel .”   Cruelty to an innocence life is a sign of warped mind . I wonder what that says about us as a society in how we treat the unborn.  S ince Roe v...
