One Shot

It only took one shot to bring down the giant.

For days Goliath had bellowed out his challenge to the soldiers of Saul, “Choose a man for yourselves and let him come down to me.” But no one dared face him.

It’s not hard to figure out why. Just look at the measurables. On paper, nobody was going to match up. He was bigger, taller, stronger, and better armed. His armor weighed more than you did.

That is why everyone cowered in fear rather than face him.

Everyone that is but one shepherd boy.

David isn’t afraid. Goliath is big but not bigger than his God. God has helped him to take down bigger game before and he has no doubt he will do it again.

Yet there are plenty of others that doubt. His Brother. His King. Even his Enemy. Go home, they said, you need this, they said, you are worthless they said.

For David, it isn’t about what he is not. It is about what he can do. We might think a slingshot isn’t a good weapon, but a good slinger could hurl a rock about a hundred miles per hour. And David was good with his sling.

David took five stones from the river, but he only needed one.

One shot was all he needed.

People face all kinds of giants in their lives. The devil is good at making the obstacles we face so big and bad that we cower in fear before them. Yet we have enough to overcome because we have God. You may not have what they say you need but you have enough in you to do it.

So go ahead and take your best shot. You might only need one.
