In our modern world, you have to be careful to protect your identity. Once a thing like your social security number was freely given, but now it’s wise to be protective of it lest someone steal it.
If your number is 078-05-1120 it is already too
late.
This number is the most misused Social Security
Number of all time. It reported that over 40,000 people reported this as
their SSN. In reality, it belonged to Mrs. Hilda Schrader Whitcher a secretary
at E.H. Ferree company. The company was selling a new wallet and her boss placed
a sample card in it to show how it could hold a Social Security card and used
her number on the sample. The wallet was sold at Woolworths stores across the
country. Even though the card was obviously not legit (it was only half the
size of a real card, was printed all in red, and had the word
"specimen" written across the face) many purchasers of the wallet still
adopted the SSN as their own. Even 40 years after the wallet was sold, at least
12 people tried to use that number.
Yet assuming the identity of another isn’t just
a modern problem.
"Then
if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or 'There He is,' do not
believe him. "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will
show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. "Behold,
I have told you in advance.
Matthew
24:23-25
Many claim to be the Christ or at least identify
with him. In some respects, they might even look the part. But if we examine
them carefully, we will see that all is not right. Jesus tells us that though
false prophets might look right on the surface, if we truly look at their works,
we see that they show something else (Matthew 7:15-20) They might be ‘card-carrying’
but we need to look and see that card is legit. Claims must be supported by
actions.
Even worse than having your identity stolen is
to think you have a true identity and in reality, it is based on falsehood. Don’t
be one of those tragic ones who think they are following him only to find out he
never truly knew him (Matthew 7:21-23).
Make sure your faith
is on the number.
