Bumping Into Walls

  Some times I stay late after the Sunday night devo to catch up on some work. It is a good time to work since everything is quite and there are usually few distractions. The only problem is when I leave my office, the building is dark. Even though I have walked down the hall hundreds of times, I still ease timidly to the exit, unsure in the darkness. I did this until I discovered a trick. If I focus on the exit light at the end of the hall and walk strait for it, I know that I won’t walk into any walls. By focusing on it, my walk stays strait and the darkness doesn’t cause me to fear. 

  I think this parallels our Christian walk. Hebrews 12 1-3 says, “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.” If we keep our focus on Jesus and the faith that he has given us, the world won’t distract us away from our end goal. No matter what darkness we find ourselves in, the light of Jesus will show us the way home.
