Seeing Is Believing But Is It Hearing As Well?

Watch this video  and notice what sound is being made. Now play the video again but this time don’t look, just listen. Does he make a different sound?

What is happening is a phenomenon which demonstrates an interaction between hearing and vision in speech perception. This auditory illusion, known as the McGurk effect, is caused by the brain’s inability to comprehend the contradiction between what it sees and what it hears. Your eyes deceive your ears into hearing differently. The McGurk effect is a vivid illustration of a truth we all know, we believe what we see over what we hear.
I think Christians need to think about this principle in their lives. Those that claim Christ but their actions do not match are never going to be believed. Jesus warned his disciple not to be like those who say things but do not do them (Matthew 23:3).  Paul told Titus that false teachers, “… profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny  Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.” (Titus 1:16)
Are our lives in sync with our words? Do people view us differently than they hear us? Is our confession of Christ as Lord mere word or something we live out each day?
