I'll Bet He Will Listen Next Time...

John  Sedwick was a civil war general that is remembered for his last words more than his military record. During a battle in 1864, his troops were probing skirmish lines ahead of Confederate defenses and he was directing artillery placements. Confederate sharpshooters were about 1,000 yards away and their shots had caused members of his staff and artillerymen to duck for cover and suggest he do the same. Instead Sedgwick strode around in the open and was quoted as saying, " What? Men dodging this way for single bullets? What will you do when they open fire along the whole line ?" Although ashamed, his men continued to flinch, so Sedwick replied, " I'm ashamed of you, dodging that way. They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance. " Well you may have guess what happened next. Just seconds later he fell forward with a bullet hole below his left eye.     Proverbs 12:15   The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who lis...

I'm Not A Fool, But I Play One When I Get Angry

When I was in college I had had one of those days at work. Not only had I had to work on a Saturday, but that day everything didn’t work like it was supposed to.  S o when I came home and my landlord had his car parked in my parking spot I was a little miffed. You see my landlord’s father lived next door and he would park there when he was visiting his dad.    But today it bothered me because the driveway was clear. I though how come he couldn’t park in his driveway and keep me from having to walk from down the street . So when I came in the door, I was ranting and raving about the big jerk who had parked in my spot. When I saw my roommate’s horrified face in took me a second to figure out what was going on. My landlord was parked there, not because he was visiting his Dad, but he had come over to our house to fix a plumbing problem personally since the plumber didn’t work on Saturday. It turns out he wasn't the jerk, I was! Needless to say I felt quite ...

Who Are The Biggest Serial Killers?

Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz and Jeffrey Dahmer have more in common than just being serial killers. These three murderers are also connected by the fact that each of them tortured and/or killed animals during their childhoods. In fact a leading commonality in 99 percent of serial killers is cruelty to animals at an early age. In a study of male prison inmates who were deemed violent offenders, found that 56% admitted to having committed acts of violence against animals. Researchers as well as FBI and other law enforcement agencies nationwide have linked animal cruelty to domestic violence, child abuse, serial killings.   This research should not come as a shock to us. The Bible told us long ago in Proverbs 12:10: " A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel .”   Cruelty to an innocence life is a sign of warped mind . I wonder what that says about us as a society in how we treat the unborn.  S ince Roe v...

How Dare That Evil Business Sell Us That Stuff We Want, For A Reasonable Price

It is sad but our society has turned the business man into a villain . Watch any movie and chances are the villain will be the evil business man. News reports are always emphasis the evil corporate greed and their unfair practices. The truth is those stories are mostly the expections and not the rule. The true backbone of most communities is the business people that sell and trade in there .    Rather than a villain they are often he heroes of the town. Because of their efforts we are blessed with jobs and goods and all of things that make our life better.  Proverbs 11:26 instructs us: " He who withholds grain, the people will curse him, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. "   Don’t forget how blessed we are to have those that provide the thing we need to live and thrive . Our local businesses are a blessing to us and we should be grateful for them!

Don't You Judge Me!

I often hear today people exclaim that Christians are too judgmental in regard to moral issues:  Why can't they just let people do what they want and stay out of others business.  What gives them the right to tell others what to do!.     While it is true faithful followers of Jesus are not to be busybodies in other affairs, those that think it is unchristian to take a moral stand on issue forget a truth we are told in Proverbs 8:13.     It says, “ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverted mouth, I hate .” We should hate evil because God hates evil .      An attitude that thinks "I can do whatever I want , whenever I want",  it an arrogant way to approach God. Rather than taking a poll, or having a vote on what people think should be right and wrong, it is much better to examine the word of God to see just what is right and wrong. To stand a...

A Wager You Can't Win

Pascal's Wager is argument for faith by the seventeenth-century French philosopher, mathematician, and physicist, Blaise Pascal. It’s basic premise is belief in God is the best bet for a person because if I believe in God and there is no God then I have lost nothing those because those believe or don’t’ share the same fate, however if I don't believe in God and there is a God then I have lost everything, while those that do believe gain eternity.     One aspect of this premise that is absolutely true is that for unbelievers death offers them no rewards. Proverbs 11:7 instructs us:  “ When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of strong men perishes. ”      If all we live for is in this life, the when we face death, there is nothing to hope for . If we trust God, than death is just door to a new life. Living to please God is vital because of the future we long for. A selfish wicked life always ends in mise...

That Girl Is Poison

One of the most deadly poison known to man doesn't look like poison. In fact, it is one of the more appealing things. It reaches down into the most primitive desires of man. It look like something desirable but with a forbidden edge to it. It doesn't always strike immediately but  it will strike and when it does, it bring pain misery and death. It not cyanide or arsenic or hemlock, it adultery.    In Proverbs 5:3-6 we read:  “ For the lips of an adulteress drip honey And smoother than oil is her speech; But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.  Her feet go down to death, Her steps take hold of death. She does not ponder the path of life; Her ways are unstable, she does not know it ."  Many folks have been lured into thinking adultery will bring them happiness or pleasure, but it has been and always be a poison that kills.  Don't drink the poison. Our world treats adu...
