The old proverb says that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” but I think it also holds to be true for wealth as well. Take for example the statement of Alexis du Pont de Bie Sr., a descendant of the powerful and wealth du Pont family, about his 3,000 dollar a month allowance from his inherited trust. He said that amount had made him "literally destitute and homeless." He still has 2 million dollars in the account but feels he is now indigent.
As Ecclesiastes 5:10 says, “He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income.” True wealth does not come in abundance but in contentment.
In 1 Timothy 6:6-10, Paul writes “But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
True riches come when we realize that our temporary possessions are not as important as out permanent place with God.
