The Importance of The Resurrection

You may have heard on the news about a documentary that is claiming to have found the remains of Jesus. It is a shabby and flimsy attack on Christianity that the media, in its typical foolishness, has sensationalized and overblown. But in the reporting, I found a very disturbing quote from a so called religious expert, James Tabor, a professor of religious studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He said that while literal interpreters of the Bible say Jesus' physical body rose from the dead, "one might affirm resurrection in a more spiritual way in which the husk of the body is left behind." In other words, you wouldn’t need to have an actual resurrection for it to be a spiritual truth.
The only problem for this “expert” is that idea is a direct contradiction from the word of God. In 1 Corinthians 15:14-19 we are told, “and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.” It amazes me how utterly ignorant the media and it “experts” are when it comes to the Bible. The resurrection is fundamental to Christianity and any one that says any different has no understanding of what it truly is and offers!
