Two shoe salesmen were sent to a village in Africa to open new sales territories. Three days later one of the salesmen sent a message back a message. “I am on the next flight back. I can’t sell shoes here. Everyone goes barefoot all the time.” There was no report from the other salesman for about two weeks. Finally he sent back this message. “Fifty orders enclosed. Prospects unlimited! Nobody here has shoes.” Perspective can mean everything.
In dealing with evangelism, the church can face a task like these two salesmen. Some look to a sinful world and give up thinking there is no way people will respond. Some will look and see people in need of the gospel. That was Jesus’ view of the lost world in Matthew 9:37-38 when he said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. "Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Instead of making excuses why it won’t work, let’s look to the lost and the need they have of Jesus Christ.
