A Brief Pause

One of the most famous photos in history is Boulevard du Temple taken by Louis Daguerre in late 1838 or early 1839 in Paris. The photo shows an empty street with one lone person standing in the bottom left corner with his leg raised. This man is the reason for the photo’s fame. You see while it may appear the street was empty, it was actually bustling. The camera’s exposure time was so slow that it could not pick up any of the people moving about, accept for the man who was standing still to have his boots polished. This man that took a few still moments became the first person in history to have his picture taken.
It is amazing what can happen if you just slow down for a few minutes. We live in a world that is always moving. Everyone is busy with places to go and things to do. But everyone needs at times to slow down and take some quite time. God himself rested after creation. Jesus would escape to the mountains to pray, and told his disciple to do so in Mark 6:31. We can busy ourselves away from God and spiritual things. When is the last time you slowed down enough to think about God?
