What He Does For You

An inventor invented a machine that had lights, bells, whistles, pulleys, gears and you would press a button and it would start running round and round and round. Somebody asked, “What does that thing do?” He said, “I don’t know, but doesn’t it run beautifully?”   For some, that is how they view God in their lives. They’re active. They go to church, they sing and pray, yet they begin to wonder ‘what is this doing for me’? If they don’t answer this, as trouble comes, it’s all too easy for them to just stop.   Yet the Scriptures give us an answer. In 1 st Peter 5:10 we read: “ After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you .”   Here it tells us four things God is doing to those that are doing his will.                 Perfect : He is completing us...

Shocking Name Calling

Thomas Edison was a pioneer in electricity with his perfection of the light bulb but by 1887, his company that was attempting to light cites everywhere was struggling. The problem was in how the electricity was delivered. The truth was his direct current (DC) was not near as cost-effective as his bitter rival George Westinghouse’s alternate current (AC). Edison felt his current was the safer choice even if it wasn’t as cheap.   So when the state of New York came calling with a desire to buy up a generator, you might be shocked when Edison recommended his rival’s technology. He even recommended the new use be called “Westinhoused”   Why?   Because the new use was to kill. The generator was for the first electric chair.  Edison believed that DC current was dangerous and what better what to show that to the world than having it kill a man. Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome med...

What You Take With You

Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed in Ford’s Theater April 14 th , 1865. Of course, he had no idea that night would be his last. Lincoln loved the theater and it was his common diversion for his stressful job. So he probably didn’t think much about what he carried in his pocket that night, but maybe we should.   In the personal effects found on Abraham Lincoln that night: a small handkerchief embroidered “A. Lincoln,” a pocketknife, a watch fob, glasses (one repaired with cotton string), a Confederate five-dollar bill, and wallet with only some worn-out newspaper clipping in it. Most of the items were common enough but I want you to notice the newspaper clipping. One began, “ Abe Lincoln is one of the greatest statesmen of all time .  The clippings were, even at the time of his death, so well-worn they were almost unreadable. They mostly were articles extolling his presidency.   Contrary to what some today might say, Lincoln was the most vilifi...
