Kim Jong Illness

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il uses the state run media to make some outrageous claims about himself.   For example, how he shot a 38 under par, complete with 11 holes-in-one, his first time to play golf.  Or how that his birth led to a spontaneous rainbow breakout, that he learned to walk by the age of 3 weeks, talk by 8 weeks, and he wrote his first manifesto on the future of the Korean people by the age of 2 years. Or that he doesn’t have to go to the bathroom like normal humans.
His delusions are not just limited to his bragging, he had all short people removed from the capital (he doesn’t like them), makes sure every grain of rice in his meals is the exact same size, and spend $750,000 each year importing his favorite alcohol and importing $20 million worth of Mercedes.  These antics might be humorous if they didn’t come at such a staggering price.  Millions of North Koreans have died of starvation under his rule.  But like so many other dictators, his concerns are only with himself.
Many may not be as crazy as Kim Jong Il but they suffer the same disorder. They brag on themselves or tear others down to advance their own agendas.  They live selfishly with no thought to how their behavior affects others.  They seek only pleasure, praise, and personal fulfillment.
We as Christians, however, are not to be this way. We are to “do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others” (Philippians 2:3-4).    This is the exact example we see of Jesus. One that could lay claim to deity yet set it aside to be a servant.
Selflessness can create good to whoever it reaches. Selfishness destroys everyone it comes in contact with.
